THE Federation of Corrugated Box Manufacturers of India is planning an upward revision of prices of corrugated boxes to remain in the business.

According to the federation, certain developments in the recent past have jeopardised the viability of the industry. Kraft paper is the principal raw material for the industry. With the recent hike in the price of kraft paper, the total increase in the current year in the price of this variety of paper has gone up by Rs 3,500 per tonne.

The prices of other raw materials such as stitching wire, adhesive, ink and power have also gone up sharply. And so have the freight costs because of the rise in price of diesel, says the federation.

The erratic supply of kraft paper by the mills is another factor that is hampering the production of corrugated boxes, the federation pointed out.
