THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Rs 16.7-crore drinking water project for a beach resort and the adjoining areas in Kovalam seeks to draw water from the Vellayani Lake in the outskirts of the Capital City.

The Capital City Region Development Project and Kerala Tourism will jointly implement the scheme as per a decision reached at a high-level meeting chaired here on Tuesday by the Tourism Minister, Mr K. C. Venugopal. To be executed by the Kerala Water Authority (KWA), the scheme will now be forwarded to the empowered committee for final approval. Tenders for the Rs 44-lakh Tourist Facilitation Centre project at Kovalam have been floated.
