THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government did not propose to pass on to consumers the debt burden arising out of the implementation of the Rs 1,787-crore drinking water scheme with support from the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). Announcing this to newspersons, the Water Resources Minister, Mr Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, said here on Tuesday that Centre had accorded the green signal to the second stage of the JBIC project.

On the pricing of the water, he said the Government would have to take a considered view. The price is not a point of contention at this stage. But much would depend on whether the State manages to execute the project on time, which is being implemented in four places.
