Hyderabad, Dec. 1

THE Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) has appealed to the Union Government to let customs clearance of goods under ATA Carnet at the Hyderabad Airport and Vizag port.

ATA Carnet is an international customs document that permits duty-free and tax-free temporary import and export of goods for the purpose of transport of products for exhibition purpose during a validity period. FAPCCI is among the authorised organisations by the Ministry of Finance to issue ATA Carnet.

Addressing the interactive session with Mr E.V.K.S. Elangovan, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, on `Opportunities and challenges ahead' here on Thursday, Mr Achut Rao, President of FAPCCI, said entrepreneurs from Andhra Pradesh were not able to utilise the facility because of this roadblock.

``We appeal to the Minister to see to it that Central Board of Excise and Customs issue a notification allowing customs clearance at the Hyderabad Airport and Vizag port. This will help the exporters to get benefit of this facility,'' he said.

He said goods certified under this were allowed for export or import only through notified airports and seaports from Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Chennai.

The Minister said he would look into the matter, pending for several years.
