INDIAN Oil Corporation Ltd said on Tuesday that it has moved five places in the Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company rankings to the 21st position this year (2005) up from 26th ranking in 2004.

In a statement issued here, it said that IOC was the only Indian company to be featured among the top 25 energy companies worldwide in this year's Platts listing. IOC is also among the top three energy companies in Asia in this listing following China's PetroChina (ranked 7) and China Petroleum (ranked 12).

Among the marketing and refining companies of the world, IOC was placed at the second position in the sectoral listing, the company statement said. Platts measures the annual performance of companies in the energy sector across the globe using five different parameters: asset worth, revenues, profits, earnings per share and return on invested capital.

Other Indian companies that figure in the top 250 global listing include ONGC (26), Reliance Industries (49), BPCL (76), Neyveli Lignite Corporation (190), and MRPL (227).

Asset and revenue-rich integrated oil and gas companies dominate the Platts Top 250 Global Energy Listings. The listing is led by US-based ExxonMobil (rank 1), followed by Total SA of France (Rank 2) and Chevron Corp at the third position.
