New Delhi, Dec. 22

THE Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Thursday said that the four per cent hike in cable charges that would be effected in the New Year would not be enforced as the TDSAT has stayed the earlier order.

A Pune-based consumer organisation, Grahak Hitvardhini Sarvajanik Sanstha, had filed an appeal against the TRAI's November notification permitting four per cent increase in the ceiling for cable charges. According to the TDSAT order, "Until further orders, in the interest of justice, we stay the increase of 4 per cent in the subscription contemplated by the Notification dated 29th November, 2005 of the respondent." The matter would be heard in February.
