Coimbatore, Jan. 17
Management students should analyse their strengths and weaknesses and also hone their communication skills in order to achieve success in their profession, according to Mr. S. Ramanathan, CEO, S&M Kids Wear, Coimbatore.
In his inaugural address at the launch of the Business Line Club, presented by Karur Vysya Bank (KVB), at the KV Institute of Management and Information Studies (KVIMIS) here on Sunday, Mr Ramanathan advised marketing professionals to listen to customers' points of view before providing them solutions or making presentations.
Marketing professionals need to “create an environment for a sale to take place” and therefore, they need to be well-informed and sensitive to customers' needs.
Finance professionals should be careful about whom they trust and HR professionals require patience, the ability to convince people, a pleasant demeanour, and be able withstand pressure from different quarters, he said.
He also advised marketing professionals to focus on the domestic market as a number of big companies and multinationals are entering the retail market.
He urged students not to judge companies by the pay packets they offered but by the opportunities they provided to learn.
Other speakers at the event were Dr S. Parimala, Principal, KVIMIS, Dr V. S. Velusamy, Chairman, KVIMIS, Mr M. Balasubramanian, AGM, KVB, Coimbatore and Mr R Premanand, Deputy Regional Manager (Circulation), The Hindu, Coimbatore.
