Some people like coffee - theuninitiated. Some people love it - theconverts. And some can't live without it- the high priests. As the companythat publishes the paper that southIndians 'need' with their morningcoffee, in our office, we have a coffeemachine that's been hacked to deliverfilter coffee rather than instant coffee.Well, if you were a geek what wouldyou do? You'd do what these guys(http://colmeia.tv/caffeine/) did: hackthe office coffee machine to show inreal-time, over the Internet, theconsumption of coffee, the frequencyand the recency of the consumption, etc. Not only did these guys create a hackto get this information but they alsocreated different visualisations to helpfocus on and emphasise certain aspectsof the consumption data. And theycreated an API that is available as adownload so that you can create morevisualisations or mash-ups.A pity that the API will only readtheir coffee consumption, but now thatyou have the idea, you could perhapswrite something similar for your coffeeconsumption and persuade yourmanager to give your team its owncoffee machine.Of course, make sure that yourmanager doesn't ban coffee becauseyou are wasting your extra energy onthings like this, though!N.
