Bharat PC is targeted at specific projects in the rural sector such as the e-governance, education among others.

, Wipro Infotech on Tuesday launched the `SuperGenius Bharat PC', designed specifically for use in rural India.

SuperGenius Bharat PC is based on Intel's innovative PC platform that has been developed exclusively to meet the needs of villages and rural communities in the country.

Designed to define locally relevant computing solutions based on Intel technology, the community PC platform is equipped to operate in a community setting, while accommodating the varying environmental conditions prevalent in the country, Wipro Infotech said in a press release.

The hardware and software features of the Wipro SuperGenius Bharat PC differentiate it from the standard desktop PCs and make it an attractive platform for the rural environment. These desktop PCs come with enhanced benefits and flexibility backed by Intel quality and reliability, it said.

Rural sector projects

Mr Anil Jain, Vice-President, Personal Computing Division, Wipro Infotech, said the Bharat PC was targeted at specific projects in the rural sector such as the e-governance, education among others.

"We are in talks with several agencies for usage of the Bharat PC on pilot basis," he said adding the pricing of the PC would depend on the project size among others factors. Otherwise, the Bharat PC was expected to cost between Rs 25,000-30,000, he said.

Wipro SuperGenius Bharat PC consists of a rugged chassis that is engineered to resist extreme dust and heat conditions. Additionally, unlike typical desktops, the new PC could continue to operate if AC power is unavailable without loss of any data.
