Wipro Infotech has launched an e-waste disposal service for PC users across 15 cities inthe country.

The entire process of collecting, packing, processing and recycling of Wipro branded desktops, laptops and servers is now in place. The company's Web site http://www.wipro.in/products/ew.htm gives more details.

Customers have to pay a nominal charge of Rs 5-7 per kg of packed material towards freight and logistics.

As a rough guideline, this will be around Rs 150 -170 for a typical computer system consisting of base CPU, keyboard and monitor. Damaged monitors will not be accepted.

The PC user must also bear any statutory levy such as duty, tax, octroi charges, according to the company Web site.

With this step, Wipro will ensure that discarded computers are passed on to vendors certified by pollution control authorities to handle and dispose of e-waste.
