SUN Microsystems India on Friday announced it would provide a series of hardware, software and Web-based training material that would enable Indian students to benefit from Sun's technology. Sun has provided the technology as part of its education grants and donations programme.

"We have earmarked $5 million for the programme, which will run from April 1 till June 15. This investment will be in the form of matching grants of new or upgrades to existing equipment for use in degree-granting educational institutions in India," Sun Microsystems' Regional Director, Asia Pacific, Mr Dinesh Bahal, said at a conference here.

The programme is a co-investment initiative, whereby Sun donates equipment with a similar investment from the educational institution or partnering aid organisation. This programme, aimed at providing impetus to the cause of education initiatives in India, would allow education institutions to purchase selected items at Standard Education Prices, and qualify for the second identical unit for free.
