WITH the growth in telephony continuing with the uptrend during April this year, the total telephone subscriber base in the country, including fixed lines and mobiles, has crossed the 100-million mark.

During the last month, approximately 2 million subscribers were added, which included around 0.59 million fixed lines and 1.44 million mobiles, a TRAI release said here on Monday.

At the end of April, the total fixed lines crossed 46 million while the mobile subscriber base was close to 54 million, the release said. The tele-density of the country has also reached 9.26, as compared to 9.08 at the end of March.

Broadband connections have also started to grow steadily since the beginning of 2005 and during the month of April, approximately 44,000 additional broadband connections were provided. The total broadband connections stood at 2.28 lakhs at the end of April, the release said.
