SECURITY vendor McAfee Inc is in talks with top Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in India to offer consumers security software.

Speaking to Business Line at the launch of security products for next year, Ms Monica Kelly, Consumer Business Manager for Asia-Pacific, McAfee Australia, said one ISP it had discussed matters with was Bharti Telecom. Ms Kelly said: "Indian consumers are well on their way into the digital era. The digital lifestyle exposes more access points to intrusion and in response, McAfee's consumer products are developed to provide multiple layers of prevention, protection and detection for inbound and outbound Internet communication. We have also broadened our product features to protect home networks and devices."

The products launched were VirusScan, Personal Firewall Plus, AntiSpyware, SpamKiller, Privacy Service and QuickClean. A new feature in the products is the change in approach to dealing with hackers who try to access your computer with malicious intent. Now users can report the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the hacker to the ISP. Such a pro-active approach against hackers is new to security products.

Speaking about China and India, Ms Kelly said that both represented similar pricing pressures to the company and were both large, growing markets for it. She also said the pricing of the software in India would definitely be lower than US pricing.

Ms Kelly also said the company was presently working on wireless security products.
