THE Mangalore University Economics Association conducted a seminar on `Facets of information technology and the knowledge sharing process' at Aikala in Mangalore taluk on Wednesday.

Inaugurating the seminar, Mr B.R. Bhat, General Manager of Corporation Bank, said that bankers are getting closer to their customers.

The number of bank offices has jumped more than eight-fold, from 8,262 during nationalisation in 1969 to 68,116 as of March 2005.

The service of a large group of people like farmers, who do not have the capacity to pay for relatively higher operational costs, will be possible only through intensive utilisation of IT and knowledge processing packages, he added.
