Bangalore, Feb. 17

Zynga, the makers of popular Facebook game Farmville, is betting big on Bangalore to take care of its growing computational scale and infrastructure. The social games provider has set up its first office in Bangalore — the company's first centre outside the US. San Francisco-headquartered Zynga offers online games such as Farmville, Café World, Fishville, Mafia Wars and Petville, on social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Tagged, Yahoo! and the iPhone. It has around 235 million active users per month across its games. Around 2 petabytes of data (this roughly equals data in 16 lakh video CDs) get transferred every day across Zynga games. “This is among the world's largest computational environments. The India team will solve magnitude of scale problems for Zynga and build an infrastructure to handle the company's growth. Eventually, the Bangalore centre will add to Zynga's game studios Zynga (in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Baltimore) and develop games for the company,” said Mr Shan Kadavil, Country Manager, Zynga India. Zynga is looking to recruit 100 people (research engineers and computer scientists) with knowledge in cloud computing and open source software. — Our Bureau
