Hyderabad, April 8

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a United Nations' arm, will host the fourth edition of the World Telecommunication Development Conference here from May 24 to June 4. To be held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), the conference would discuss and finalise development priorities in view of the deep digital divide created by the rapid but uneven expansion of information and communication technologies. The conference, held every four years, would also focus on promoting international cooperation and partnerships to help strengthen telecommunications infrastructure and institutions in developing countries. The earlier edition was held in Doha in 2006. “About 1,200 participants from over 191 countries would take part in the conference,” Ms K. Ratna Prabha, Principal Secretary in the Information Technology and Communication Department (Andhra Pradesh Government), said here in a statement. She held a coordination meeting with various stakeholders, including the police, general administration, tourism and BSNL. — Our Bureau
