Coimbatore, Nov. 17 An imminent collision of two flights belonging to low-cost airliners SpiceJet and Air Deccan was averted Saturday morning at the Peelamedu airport parking bay, thanks to alert ground-handling staff.

The SpiceJet aircraft (a Boeing 737) was taxiing out for takeoff on its flight to Hyderabad when it overshot the apron marking by a few feet and narrowly missed hitting Air Deccan’s Airbus 320 aircraft parked in the next bay, sources at the airport said. The Air Deccan Mumbai-Coimbatore-Mumbai flight with 175 passengers onboard was waiting to depart on its return flight to Mumbai when the incident took place.
