The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, has called upon the elected representatives and the district administration to impress upon the Centre/State Government and also the Airport Authority of India for expeditious implementation of the Coimbatore airport expansion. The airport expansion is being delayed, curtailing the economic development of the region, the Chamber in a communication has said, adding it has in this regard urged the Members of Parliament and the MLAs elected from the region, the chairmen of the elected civic bodies and the district collector, Coimbatore to take up this issue with the authorities concerned for immediate starting of the expansion work at the airport.

The president of the Chamber Mr D. Balasundaram in his communication has noted that airport expansion would pave way for more exports, increased foreign business travellers to the city, which will also see operation of direct international flights.
