KOCHI: The Cochin Port Trust is to prepare a project report for development of a model fish-landing centre for traditional fishermen at the Vallarpadam shoreline or at another suitable location within three months.

With the establishment of the International Container Transhipment Terminal at Vallarpadam, the fishermen community has raised the apprehension that there would be hindrance in carrying out fishing operations in the locality.

Representatives of traditional fishermen had approached the port to create landing and auction centre for them. Accordingly, the port Chairman, Dr Jacob Thomas, convened a meeting with trade union leaders and it has been decided to prepare a project report to set up the fish-landing facility for traditional fishermen.
