INDIA Post aims to include banking in its services, according to Ms Vatsala Raghu, Principal Chief Post-Master General, Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to newspersons about the National Postal Week, to be held between October 9-14, she said that the service would focus on lending and accepting term deposits.

The Department also plans to introduce instant money order service through which online transfer of money can take place.

According to Ms Raghu, the National Postal Week would be an opportunity to make the public aware of the services that India Post offers. The theme during the week would be `Postal Sector - An essential partner for the information society'.

India Post offers many services to the corporate sector such as Direct Post, which addresses the needs of business organisations by sending out unaddressed postal articles such as letters, cards, and brochures as a form of direct advertising for the company. The service was introduced on June 2 this year.

Another service offered is corporate e-post, where a single message can be sent to 9,999 addresses through e-mail.

Some of the events to be conducted during the week are Philately Day on October 11, during which several schools will participate in workshops, and Customer Meet on October 12, an event held to apprise members of the public about services such as international money transfer and retail or mutual funds through post offices. Ms Raghu said that the event would also be an opportunity for India Post to get some feedback from its customers.
