The advocates of strikes in India's transport sector may draw comfort from the fact that the incidents of industrial disputes in transport sector is rising all over the world, as workers are increasingly becoming more vocal about their rights and unsatisfactory working conditions, according to a recent report in Transport Intelligence.

The report suggests that union activity could affect container shipping. Meanwhile, the International Transport Workers' Federation has secured a two-stage 10 per cent hike in crew remuneration for vessels operated by the members of ITF's Joint Negotiation Group of Shipowners in a deal that covers 3200 ships employing an estimated 55,000 seafarers.
