Taking into account the impressive growth in thepremium handset market, Samsung on Wednesdaylaunched Omnia HD and Omnia Pro to consolidate itsleadership position.
The Omnia HD is priced at Rs 33,900and aimed at the high-end market, which is expected toincrease by 50 per cent to 1.2 million handsets by the endof this year.
The company expects to control around 50per cent of the market with its portfolio of nine touchphonemodels. Some of the phones from other companiesthat will compete with Omnia are Apple's Iphone, whichretails around Rs 30,000, and HTC's touch-phone seriesMagic and Touch Diamond, which retail around Rs29,000 and Rs 27,500 respectively.
Nokia, the marketleader in the Indian cellphone market, continues to beabsent from the touch-screen segment.
Samsung plans torelease 13 more models by the end of this year whichwould span various price segments. - Our Bureau
