The Future Group-promoted Pantaloon Retail India Ltd has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Chennai-based human resources consulting firm AVTAR Career Creators to hire women professionals to work part-time and run its operations across cities.

According to Ms Saundarya Rajesh, Chief Executive Officer, AVTAR Career Creators, a pilot initiative has been kick-started in Kolkata where the company plans to hire about 250 women.

AVTAR will hire over 200 women in each city to work part-time in Pantaloon stores in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi and Pune.

They would be considered for jobs relating to IT infrastructure management, warehousing activities, audit and customer relationship management, store operations, events management, in-store promotions, locality mapping and human resources. Low skill activities such as bar coding and merchandising will also require such candidates.

Besides professionals, AVTAR would also assess first time career seeking housewives for these jobs, Ms Rajesh said.

Pantaloon would train these candidates in retail specific skills. The company is breaking down all back-end activities into 30-45-minute capsules so that there are jobs even for those who can spare less than an hour a day for work, she said. When asked about the wages from such jobs, Ms Rajesh said Pantaloon was yet to finalise the terms. It is known that most part-time jobs across industries are lower paying than permanent jobs.

AVTAR has provided temporary staffing solutions to industries such as banking, IT, ITES and FMCG.
