Hindustan Latex Ltd on Saturday announced the launch of a female contraceptive following a marketing tie-up with the London-based Female Health Company (FHC). The company would distribute the female condom under the brand name `Confidom Passion Rings'. FHC, the only producer of female condom, would be supplying 5,00,000 condoms in the first year, said the Hindustan Latex Chairman and Managing Director, Mr M. Ayyappan. He said Confidom, imported at Rs 45 per piece, would be marketed through lifestyle stores like Health & Glow and will be targeted at upwardly mobile customers. It will be sold at Rs 250 in a fancy pack of two pieces. Hindustan Latex would be investing about Rs 5 crore to set up a packaging unit in Kochi after negotiations were completed with FHC for taking up packaging of the product later this year. It is also trying for transfer of technology by FHC to produce the female condoms at its plant.
