Chennai, Aug. 9
Lifestyle audio-visual systems maker Bang & Olufsen (B&O) has introduced about 50 products in Chennai. This is B&O's third store in India after New Delhi and Mumbai and has a service facility besides a consulting practice to customise products. All products will be imported from B&O's headquarters in Denmark.
The range of products includes televisions (LCD and Plasma) audio-visual systems (CD, MP3, DVD players), a portable radio with a memory card and telephones.
The price for standalone products starts at Rs 8,000 for a pair of ear-phones and goes up to Rs 7 lakh and more for speakers. B&O also has one remote control that can operate all its products including air conditioners and curtains (of certain brands that can be synchronised with B&O). All its speakers come with inbuilt amplifiers (active amplifiers), touch-pad usage and are coated with anodised aluminium that does not corrode. "We do not believe in changing design to improve functionality as we take six years to bring out one product. The electronics of the system keeps changing while the design is retained," said Mr Gerhard Paul Slaman, Chief Technology Officer, B&O-India. The fastest moving product, according to Mr Slaman, is a 65-inch plasma TV costing about Rs 8 lakh.
The company has patented its "acoustic lens" design implemented in speakers. Through this design, speakers sense the space in the room and align themselves to provide necessary quality of sound.
