Walt Disney India today announced its first locally developed South Indian film in partnership with film producer and director Mr K. Raghavendra Rao. The film, to be produced under the banner ‘A Bellyful of Dreams Entertainment Pvt Ltd', will feature actors Siddharth and Shruti Hassan in the lead.

According to Mr Mahesh Samat, Managing Director, Walt Disney Company India, the period fantasy film is being produced in Telugu and will be dubbed into Tamil too. Outside the US, India is one of the largest markets Disney has invested in for local production. As the company works to build a family entertainment brand India, it plans to provide Indian audience locally relevant stories and “will continue to tap into the local creative ecosystem to develop content which resonates with Indian kids and families”, he said.

The $36-billion Disney has so far invested close to $500 million in India in the last five years and anticipates accelerated growth across Media Networks, Interactive media group, consumer products and studio businesses. The Disney television network, comprising Disney Channel, Disney XD and Hungama TV, reaches over 71 million homes. The company has signed a multi-year pact with Sun Distribution Services, part of the Chennai-based Sun Network, to distribute its channels across multiple platforms including cable TV, DTH and IP-TV.
