You could soon be courted by a telemarketer to buy an insurance policy once the regime of free pricing (detariffing) of general insurance policies gets under way, thinks Mr Dalip Verma, Managing Director of Tata AIG General Insurance Company.

Indeed, not just telemarketing other but other modes of distribution as well, channels such as bancassurance, SMS, telephones, Internet and worksite marketing would emerge, he said. He was addressing a seminar on `Insurance for infrastructure' here on Friday,

In his view, detariffication in the insurance industry would expand the scope of distribution as pressures on margins demand cost-effective and innovative methods to sell the products to supplement the traditional modes of distribution,

"In the detariffied regime you will have a plethora of plans and plethora of ratings available. You need the services of experts," he said.
