THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A meeting of the State committee of the National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE) held here on Wednesday discussed various problems dogging the banking industry.

Mr John Joseph, who presided over the meeting, observed that moves to amend the Banking Regulation and Reserve Bank of India Acts are against the interests of both employees and the common man. The proposed Bills, since referred to a Standing Committee of Parliament, provide a ruse for banks to divert their focus from mass banking to class banking. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) is chalking out an agitation programme to protest these moves.

The meeting elected Mr K. Raja Kurup as the General Secretary of the State Committee in place of Mr Komal Das who demitted office. Mr Kurup is also President of the State Banks Staff Union, Kerala Circle.
