The Government's decision to amend the decadent Factories Act, 1948 that will now allow women to work in night shifts is a welcome move. It is high time we viewed the world as it has changed in the last century.

For women not only work late hours at factory premises but also at many other service industries and unorganised sectors.

Till now, they have camouflaged the situation be issuing some alibi or the other if they were caught.

Financial obligations as well as the need to earn a few extra bucks, compel women to take up alternate jobs, a trend seen in the metros as well as small towns.

The amendment therefore will ensure the safety of women, and hopefully, encourage organisations to act as `equal opportunity employers'.
