The apathy towards the need to control population growth shows the lack of coordinated efforts to evolve a strategy encompassing economic, social and general health concernsthroughout the country.

It is not enough that the Hindi belt is blamed for not being able to curb its rising numbers, while other States are held up as perfect examples. Controlling population has to be a team effort involving the participation of every State in the country.

The media too has to drive home the need for curbing population growth by relating stories that create awareness and not by advertising safe sex alone.

What is required is a balanced approach that focuses on regulating the population density between the urban and the rural areas.
