Indian B-school professors seem to have been quite successful in building relevance in their teachings but need to significantly move towards rigor and strike a much better balance in terms of their ability to bring rigor and relevance to their teaching, along the lines of other professional disciplines such as law and medicine, says Dr. Madhukar G. Angur, Chancellor, Alliance University.

Alliance University, located on an extensive state-of-the-art campus in Bangalore, India, offers a variety of degree programmes.

Alliance as or is in the process of establishing six major academic units, viz., the School of Business; College of Engineering and Design; College of Arts, Sciences and the Humanities; Law College; School of Health Professions and Studies; and the College of Media and Communication.

Its oldest professional school, the School of Business of Alliance University is consistently ranked among the top ten B-schools in the nation by various ranking agencies. “Formal management education in India is only about 50 years old as compared to over 100 years in the US.

It is time for Indian B-schools to consider ways to reinvent and align themselves with global management needs and challenges.

At the same time, they must recognise that certain aspects are still uniquely indigenous requiring prudent rebalancing between rigour and relevance and the forging of a renewed path toward setting India's own standards of excellence,” says Dr. Angur, who is listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers.

Hence, Alliance University, besides its academic offerings, also excels in its research endeavours.

It has several centres and research activities. Some of the centres include the Alliance Centre for Quality of Life Studies, Centre for Business Excellence, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Leadership, and the Centre for Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility, among others.

Alliance University also constantly strives to enter into areas and domains that have the potential to improve the quality of life for large sections of the society.

These include among others, Sustainable Development; Green Energy; Holistic Medicine; Vocational Training; Traditional Arts and Crafts; Science and the Humanities, and Advances in Nanotechnology.

“Above all, Alliance University pledges itself to be an extraordinary constituent that the society at large can truly be proud of,” adds Dr. Angur.
