VARIOUS Central cadre officials, who had enjoyed the privilege of taking up fixed term jobs in public sector undertakings (PSUs) on deputation basis and coming back to the cadre will now have to continue with their responsibilities in the PSU concerned.

The Government has decided that officers going out to take up responsibilities in Government-owned companies and enjoying benefits of services in the corporate sector along with the perks should join the PSUs on immediate absorption basis.

According to official sources, a notification has already been issued to this effect.

The new rules will apply to all Central PSUs, including those under the Ministry of Railways, officials said.

Railways would be the hardest hit by this directive, as all the key posts in the PSUs under the Ministry are manned by officers on deputation.

The new rules also mention that employees of one PSU can join another PSU on a permanent basis.

The notification, however, allows for deputation of bureaucrats to the posts of chief executives and regional chiefs, posts that require continuous liaison and co-ordination with the State Governments concerned.

The list of central PSUs in which the posts of chief executives and regional chiefs, could be exempted, should remain restricted and should not normally be enlarged, officials said.

The Department of Public Enterprises would draw up the list of such PSUs with the approval of the Cabinet committee on appointment.
