The Tamil Nadu Government plans to set up Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency to drive e-governance initiatives in the State.

The agency would be registered as a company and would have Mr Atul Anand, Collector, Theni District, as its first chief executive officer. The State IT Secretary would be chairman of the agency, according to Government sources.

Currently, Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Elcot), under the Information Technology Department, is the nodal agency for development of e-Governance in the State. It acts as a consultant and also handles procurement of hardware and software.

Important areas of e-Gov Division of Elcot are project supervision, request for proposal preparation, preparation of scope of work, service level agreement, bid management and vendor evaluation.

Elcot would continue to do things like procurement for government departments while the agency would work on e-governance policy and standard issues and get them approved.

The new agency would also offer services to government departments in technology architecture, end-to-end consultancy services and training in association with its partners and consultants, sources said.
