Stakeholders of the IT industry on Wednesday urged the West Bengal Government to develop proper infrastructure for info-tech hubs in smaller cities in the State.

In a meeting with the State IT minister, Partha Chatterjee, to discuss the state IT policy announced last month, the stakeholders requested the State to focus on addressing infrastructural issues before setting up IT facilities in the tier-II and tier-III cities.

They pointed out that Salt Lake, located in the eastern fringes of Kolkata , is slowly losing its charm as an IT hub in the state. The session also talked about giving priority to the small and medium enterprises. The state government said that it would soon frame a procurement policy for the industry.
