Agriculture: Storage capacity can be enhanced by building storage/cold storage facilities, introducing technology and enhancing post-harvest infrastructure. In processing, there are opportunities in creating knowledge on grading, processing, packing and marketing, making processing equipment available and improving post-harvest practices. Horticulture: The district is known for its fruits and vegetables cultivation after Hassan and Kolar districts.
Onion, potato, tomato, brinjal (eggplant), chilli, capsicum, carrot, mango, sapota, banana, grapes and papaya are the major horticultural crops in the region.
Sericulture: During 2006-07, out of 360 tonnes of cocoons produced in the district, 100 tonnes was Bivoltine.
There is potential for the reeling industry in the district.
Food processing: Owing to the expanding horticulture in the district, opportunities to integrate the value chain through value-added products are galore.
Apart from processing units, there is huge scope for storage infrastructure in the region.
