Individual and meaningful experiences that reveal a new world are what millennials look for from travel, says a report by Titan’s Paradox Panel. In its latest report ‘Collective Individualism and what it means for the Lives and Leisure of India’s Generation Y’, it found that 70 per cent want their destinations to offer them an opportunity for interactive and immersive experiences, to be a “protagonist” rather than just a traveller. And travel’s beneficial impact on work is noticed too – over 90 per cent agree that it’s a competitive advantage and enables greater exposure and acceptance of diversity at the workplace.

The paradox here is that the millennials crowdsource information and opinions before deciding on their journey and destination but want an experience that is unique, says the report.

Other findings highlight Indian millennials’ attitude towards work-life balance. For millennials work is simply another medium of individual, personal self-expression, with 83 per cent believing that a job should help them to ’pursue their passion’. However, this does not connote compromise. They expect to be in management positions within a year or in senior positions/entrepreneurs in two years. They believe business can have a positive effect on issues such as climate change, resource scarcity and income inequality.

The insights shared have been sourced from various recent millennial study reports while being debated and compiled by the independent experts on the panel.
