Do you know the difference between champagne and sparkling wine? A drink can be called champagne only if it comes from the Champagne region of France. Dig a little deeper, and you will find that the difference extends to the rules of production and the climatic conditions that differ between Champagne and other places that produce sparkling wine.
There are several products/brands that have the geographic indication and appellation of origin tags, which mean that none other than registered users are allowed to use these product names. Some other examples are Scotch whisky, Tirupati laddu, Kancheepuram saris, Mysore sandal soap and Bikaneri Bhujia. Can you think of more?
