Are you and your mobile phone joined at the hip even on holiday? If you are Indian, then you must be one of the exceptions. A Hotels.com survey has found that India comes last, with only 20 per cent of the respondents saying they would be reluctant to shed their phones on vacation. The top five countries in the list are Thailand, Korea, Japan, China and Singapore.

A deeper probe into Indian habits reveals that one in five (20 per cent) regret spending too much time on their mobile device once they return home. Three out of five (58 per cent) check work e-mails while away and seven in ten (71 per cent) say they try to use their holiday to forget about work. Being able to use social media, wherever they are, is very important to 20 per cent of them.

Then, how far are you willing to stretch the truth about what a great holiday you had? India comes only seventh in this not so complimentary list. China tops it, with 67 per cent of respondents admitting they are likely to embroider the facts. Germany comes next, and then Korea.

The survey was conducted among 2,495 respondents in July 2014 across 28 countries.
