Add festive season to the need for instant gratification and shopping in a variety of modes – desktop, in-store and mobile – and there emerges the need for a supply and logistics system that’s better than ever.

Operations professionals are taking a hard look at upgrading their warehouses to boost productivity, cut transportation costs and accelerate merchandise shipments. According to Zebra, a firm that builds tracking technology, supply chain networks are set to undergo an extreme makeover in the next few years. The retail, wholesale, transportation and logistics sectors are transitioning to “best-of-breed” warehouse management systems that take automation to new heights — from automation designed to speed up processes to increasing the number of warehouses while making them leaner. Zebra’s Warehouse Vision Report (Asia Pacific version) polled over 1,000 IT and operational professionals in the logistics, manufacturing, retail, transportation, and wholesale segments, including those from Australia, China, and India. The respondents surveyed are employed by firms that manage at least one warehouse or distribution centre, and report no less than $15 million in annual revenue.
