Facebook ads on your news feed could soon look like trial rooms. The social media giant is implementing augmented reality ads, which means users can virtually try on the products advertised.

The AR ads are currently in a test phase and only in the US. Michael Kors was the first brand to try out the AR ads enabling people to try on a pair of sunglasses and make a purchase based on their experience. Other brands like Sephora are on board too and testing is on among brands that deal in fashion accessories, cosmetics, furniture and gaming and entertainment. Facebook says it will roll out AR ads more broadly to other industries over the course of the year, and these tools are aimed at encouraging product discovery.

Ikea rolls out first ad for India

Ahead of its first store opening in India on July 19 at Hyderabad, iconic Swedish furniture brand Ikea has rolled out its maiden ad campaign for the country. Created by Dentsu Impact, it is a playful take on a home and the everyday moments in it. From the kitchen to the living room to the study areas, the warm and tingly ad captures a family’s movements and activities. And how these spaces transform into a playground, creative zone, rest areas depending on the moods. It’s everyday life at home. As Soumitra Karnik, Chief Creative Officer, Dentsu Impact, explains, “What you’ll see is something that is truly Indian as well as truly Ikea — a campaign that is real, it’s about all of us and our lives, and one that will leave viewers with a nice, happy feeling.” The campaign is live on TV and Out of Home and soon a set of digital films will also be released.
