The India arm of Adobe has over 300 IPs across almost every solution across the Adobe suite of products, says Kulmeet Bawa, Managing Director – South Asia, Adobe Systems India Pvt Ltd. Over 30 per cent of the firm’s research and development is conducted in India. India is the second largest economy for India outside North America.
He notes that businesses today are realising that retention, and not just acquisition, are important. “The conversion-retention shift is happening very quickly, and experience is a big differentiator,” he says.
There are many players in the experience business now, including the likes of Oracle. Ask Bawa how Adobe is dealing with competition and he says that to build an experience, one needs to optimise art and science in real time. “Adobe has both sides – the content and data capabilities. I don’t think any competitor has both. There are small solutions but not holistic,” he says.
As for piracy, Bawa observes that it’s a problem for all software providers. Adobe has moved to a subscription model which makes its products more affordable and reduces piracy, he says.
