Would you rather jog, lift weights or practise Yoga, or combine them all? Reebok India’s Fit India survey finds that running is the most popular fitness activity across Indian cities. Relatively little is spent on it and it can be easily paired with other activities. What’s more, 56 per cent of the 1,500 respondents surveyed have participated in one marathon every two years.
The eight-city survey revealed that Pune had the highest FitScore – 7.65/10. This score is a combination of how fit people in the city feel, the number of hours devoted to fitness each week, frequency of working out and number of fitness activities participated in, followed by Chandigarh which scored 7.35. Chennai scored the least, at 6.20.
Fifty-two per cent spend over ₹8, 000 a year on fitness related apparel and shoes.
Nine out of 10 respondents felt fitness was extremely important and over 80 per cent were motivated to achieve a healthier lifestyle. The respondents were aged between 20 and 35 years.
