British novelist Wilkie Collins’ successful mystery, The Woman in White , published in 1859, is believed to have led to a rush of merchandising. Perfumes, cloaks and bonnets inspired by the book were among the objects sold. Can you think of other books, in fiction, comics or any other genre, modern or not, that have been mass-merchandised, by their authors or copyright owners or even fans before they were adapted to film or TV?
