Mr Anil D. Ambani met CBI officials at the agency's headquarters here on Wednesday to clarify his group company's position on alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum scam.

While ADA Group spokesperson maintained that “no summons” were issued to Mr Ambani for appearing before the CBI, the meeting gathers significance as the investigating agency is probing the alleged corruption involving the granting of mobile phone licences at below-market prices in 2008.

This comes a day after the CBI questioned top honchos of other new telecom players such as Loop, S-Tel, and Unitech, as also of Tata Realty for their alleged role in the scam.

“During the course of his weekly visit to New Delhi, Mr Anil Ambani met CBI officials today to clarify ongoing issues, relating to telecom matters for the years 2001 to 2010, and virtually every telecom operator in the country,” said a statement issued by ADA Group.

The Comptroller and Auditor-General, in its report, had said that “undue benefit” was given to Reliance Communication by the Department of Telecom when giving permission to offer both GSM and CDMA-based mobile services on the same day the policy to allow dual technology was announced.

It has also been alleged that Reliance Communications held substantial stake in Swan Telecom at the time of applying for the licences. This is in violation of the DoT's crossholding norms that bar a single company from owning more than 10 per cent stake in two entities in the same circle.

The ADA Group denied these allegations.
