The dominant faction of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) – led by the General Secretary, Mr Rajendra Prasad Singh – has deferred the scheduled three-day strike in Coal India Ltd from August 8. The company will start wage negotiation from August 20.
The decision was taken following a tripartite meeting combining both the company management as well as unions at the Coal Ministry this afternoon, according to Mr R. Mohan Das, Director, Personnel and Industrial Relations.
The strike was deferred following CIL's decision to form the 18 member joint bi-partite consultative committee (JBC) inclusive of four nominees from Mr. Singh controlled INTUC faction.
While other unions were offered three seats each in the JBC, in accordance with demands for inclusion from another faction of INTUC union, led by Mr Chandrasekhar Dubey, two seats were left vacant, to be distributed following the resolving of court cases between the two factions.
According to Mr Mohan Das, the JBC will hold its first meeting for wage negotiation on August 20 and 21. A sub-committee of JBC is also formed to thrash out smaller issues involved with the forthcoming wage negotiation.
