Officials of the Legal Metrology Department of Andhra Pradesh have raided the Bharti-Walmart store here and booked 30 cases for violation of metrology norms, such as labelling.

They have inspected the store at Shamsabad on Thursday and booked the cases.

“We have filed the cases for violating the packaging norms, not having the address of manufacturer on crockery items and other such violations,” R.P. Thakur, Controller of Legal Metrology (Andhra Pradesh Government), said.

This is for the first time that the officials have raided multinational retail major in Hyderabad.

A special team has conducted surprise inspections and found the irregularities and violation of Legal Metrology Act 2009 and packaged Commodities Rules of 2011.

“The packages of Karachi, Shalimar and Osmania bakery products do not have proper labels. The packages of money-counting machines do not have address of the manufacturer,” he said here in a press release on Thursday.
