German luxury carmaker Audi announced on Monday the launch of a new diesel variant of the Audi Q5 SUV, the 2.0 TDI Quattro. The new variant is priced at Rs 39.05 lakh (ex-showroom Maharashtra) and deliveries to customers would begin in April this year. It will be assembled in India from completely knocked down kits. “We are confident that the addition of the powerful 2.0 TDI q engine to the Audi Q5 range will strengthen and sustain our leadership position in the luxury SUV segment,” said Mr Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India.

The Audi Q5 2.0 TDI q produces 170 hp of power and reaches a maximum torque of 350 Nm at 1,750 rpm. It is equipped with the 7-speed automatic S tronic transmission. The entire Q5 range also has other variants available such as the petrol 2.0 TFSI q and the diesel 3.0 TDI q. Audi India sold 3,003 cars in 2010 and posted a growth of 81 per cent. This year, the brand has opened showrooms in Delhi and Chennai, with Ludhiana to follow soon.

It already has showrooms in Mumbai West, Kolkata, Jaipur and Bengaluru. The Audi model range in India includes Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi A8, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi TT, the super sports car Audi R8 and the recently launched Audi R8 Spyder.
