Aurobindo Pharma Ltd has received final approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) for its Famciclovir tablets. Famciclovir tablets are the generic version of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp's Famvir tablets. They are used for the treatment of recurrent mucocutaneous herpes simples infections in HIV-infected patients and the suppression of recurrent genital herpes in immuno-competent patients. The product had a market size of approximately $175 million for the twelve months ending September 2010, according to IMS data. The product was ready for commercial launch, the Hyderabad-based company said in a release on Tuesday.
