The curtains came down on the 12th edition of the Auto Expo, the country’s premier automobile show, on Tuesday on a positive note at the new venue here, which saw not only youngsters, but old men and women from Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) thronging the site.

A few young couples were seen carting their children in prams to get the feel of the latest cars showcased at the international expo. “My young kids are fans of superbikes and cars, and it was the last day, so I had to bring them to the expo for a glimpse,” said Rachna, a Noida resident.

Reports of many futuristic cars being unveiled brought some technology students from afar, who said they wanted to understand design and concepts.

“We liked the Volkswagen Polo Electric and BMW’s i8 concepts the most,” said Rahul and Saahil, who came to see the show from the Regional Institute of Management and Technology, Ludhiana.

Not only visitors, the week-long expo also generated a ‘feel good’ factor for the organisers and companies. The show witnessed a total of 70 new launches, of which 26 were global models.

“The show at Noida has been better than previous years in terms of the well-maintained venue. The only challenge was metro connectivity and food stalls, but these were also well organised with the free shuttle services from the Botanical Garden (Metro station),” said Vishnu Mathur, Director General, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). He added the number of visitors to the expo had proved that Greater Noida was well within the reach of the people in various parts of Delhi-NCR.

According to SIAM, 5.61 lakh people visited the expo, with Sunday recording the highest number at 1.21 lakh people. On the last day, about 90,000 visitors were recorded.

The previous expo, held at Pragati Maidan, had a record of seven lakh visitors in seven days. But then both the components and auto shows were held at the same venue. This year, the components show was held at Pragati Maidan.
