The Chairman of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), Mr C.S. Verma, was awarded the Icon of the Year award by the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI).
The award was given away by Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Mr R. Bandyopadhyay, at the 52nd National Convention of the institute.
Maharatna SAIL owns and operates five integrated steel plants in Bhilai, Bokaro, Durgapur, Rourkela, and Burnpur and three special steel plants at Salem, Durgapur and Bhadravati.
SAIL is currently implementing a modernisation and expansion plan in its plants and mines, to take its hot metal production capacity to 23.46 million tonnes by 2012-13.
The capital outlay for the same is expected to be Rs 70,000 crore, according to a release. Post-modernisation, the share of high-quality and value-added products will go up in SAIL's product mix.
